The Hobbits named it the Shire, as the region of the authority of their Thain, and a district of well-ordered business; and there in that pleasant corner of the world they plied their well-ordered business of living, and they heeded less and less the world outside where dark things moved, until they came to think that peace and plenty were the rule in Middle-earth and the right of all sensible folk. They forgot or ignored what little they had ever known of the Guardians, and of the labours of those that made possible the long peace of the Shire. They were, in fact, sheltered, but they had ceased to remember it.The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

A Long-extended Party is pleased to present The Shire’s Reckoning, the second free, community-created deluxe expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

Set anxieties aside and enter the Shire, a peaceful sanctuary to some of Middle-earth’s smallest and most beloved inhabitants: Hobbits. Enjoy the small everyday comforts of a quiet people, uninterested in the comings and goings of the world abroad. Perhaps walk the rolling downlands and greet the neighbors just down the lane, or if the summer breeze guides you farther, visit the comely glens near Woody End. While you’re in the Shire, don’t forget! It’s not only summer, it’s Overlithe! And where there are Hobbits and holidays together, there will be parties under the Party Tree in Hobbiton!

Pies, Parties, Poultry, Poplars

While you might think this is a pleasant vacation in the Shire, there is no shortage of work to be done! Whether delivering pies for a party or chickens for a local farmer, you may end up seeing more of the countryside than you originally intended. A jaunt from a bakery all the way to the Party Tree, for example, may seem quick at first glance, but such a journey is rife with peril…peril for a pie in the Shire, at least. Local rascals, distractions, and even normally well-behaved neighbors could hamper you from reaching your final destination. Rest assured that despite the busyness surrounding Overlithe, distractions should be the worst of your worries… If you happen to make it to Buckland, though, mind the High Hay. The Bucklanders have maintained the barrier between sensible folk and the Old Forest for hundreds of years. The forest is considered strange and worrisome for a reason…to any Brandybuck with good sense anyway.

Melodies of the Minstrels and Family Matters

The Shire’s Reckoning deluxe fleshes out the Minstrel trait while giving players and music fans everywhere access to three new Minstrel heroes, three new Minstrel allies, three new Instrument attachments, and six new Song cards. Ho! That’s a lot of music! Players can make their own band as they build their deck or splash their favorite tunes and singers in with other cards in their collection.

Apart from all the raucous music, players might decide a certain umbrella-wielding Burglar would be better off delivering her own pies to the party… Sackville-Bagginses aside, Bilbo Baggins makes his second appearance as an ally card while his adoptive heir Frodo Baggins makes his debut!

To top off the festivities, players can try a new card type: Player Objectives. These represent additional priorities or optional goals for players to pursue during their quest. At the end of Setup, players as a group may put into play a player objective from their collection and then they have the option to opt in to it if they choose to do so.

Put Your Feet Up!

Enjoy the homely qualities of the Shire during Overlithe before, or perhaps during, errands for the locals. Forget the world outside the Shire’s borders and enjoy an almost certain tranquility…
