“But I have so little of any of these things! You are wise and powerful. Will you not take the Ring?

“No!” cried Gandalf, springing to his feet. “With that power I should have power too great and terrible. And over me the Ring would gain a power still greater and more deadly.” His eyes flashed and his face was lit as by a fire within. “Do not tempt me! For I do not wish to become like the Dark Lord himself. Yet the way of the Ring to my heart is by pity, pity for weakness and the desire of strength to do good. Do not tempt me! I dare not take it, not even to keep it safe, unused. The wish to wield it would be too great for my strength. I shall have such need of it. Great perils lie before me.”

–The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien

At Con of the Rings 2025, A Long-extended Party introduced The Mirror of Galadriel, a modular scenario designed to explore possible futures for inhabitants of Middle Earth, based on the moment from The Fellowship of the Ring when Sam and Frodo gaze into the Mirror of Galadriel, glimpsing visions of the Shire in disarray and of the relentless gaze of the Eye.

The first module for The Mirror of Galadriel scenario offered a vision of Sauron coming in person to reclaim the One Ring that had been brought to Gondor.

Will you dare gaze into the Mirror once more?

Introducing a New Scenario and Villain

The Mirror of Galadriel is a modular scenario presenting many possible challenges for players to face. Players must choose two waves of enemies taken from existing encounter sets, a Scenario objective presenting a set of location and treachery cards, and a Villain enemy players must ultimately defeat to win the scenario.

This year, at Con of the Rings 2026, the Mirror offers yet another vision: the Shire is under siege and a wizard gravely tempted by the power of the Ring comes to its aid. And so players will find a new Scenario called “The Ring Stays in the Shire” and the new Villain objective “Take It Gandalf!”

These new modules can be played together for a new experience or combined with the previously released The Ring Comes to Gondor Scenario and/or Sauron Villain.

Set 2 also introduces a new Wave 1 and Wave 2 objective. If you want to try these waves out at the convention, make sure you take a look at their setup effects and bring the appropriate cards.

The Ring Stays in the Shire

The Shire presents many scenic and quaint locations to visit, but choose your travels carefully! As each player chooses their own active location to travel to and ultimately defend, the direction of the location may have an impact on upcoming treacheries. If you are in the West you may be spared from a wolf attack in the East only to fall victim to a raid by Corsairs.

A Villain Gandalf?

With the Shire under Siege, will Gandalf be able to resist the temptation of the Ring as he did when Frodo first offered it to him? Or will the great needs of his wards push him to finally use the powerful artifact?

Only time will tell how he will fare against the Ring’s corruption as you gaze into the waters of the Mirror once again.
