Thus began the Shire-reckoning, for the year of the crossing of the Brandywine (as the Hobbits turned the name) became Year One of the Shire, and all later dates were reckoned from it. At once the western Hobbits fell in love with their new land, and they remained there, and soon passed once more out of the history of Men and of Elves. While there was still a king they were in name his subjects, but they were, in fact, ruled by their own chieftains and meddled not at all with events in the world outside.

—The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

When A Long-extended Party first started up our designs and brainstorming sessions for the story and setting of our first cycle, Oaths of the Rohirrim, we conducted a bit of an informal poll to see where the most people wanted to see a cycle of quests take place. While we did ultimately decide on Rohan for the setting for our first cycle, there was another place in Middle-earth that many players wanted to see further explored as well.

The Shire’s Reckoning will be the second Deluxe Expansion created by ALeP, and work is well underway in the design and playtesting process for the cards in this Deluxe box and in the subsequent Fell Summer cycle.

The design and playtesting process is a bit slower on the Deluxe than on the Adventure Packs we had been releasing over the past year or two, so news directly from ALeP has been a bit more sporadic than we would like it to be. While we don’t have any cards that have fully passed through playtesting and review to be able to show off just yet, we did want to let it be known that our team of volunteers in the community is still hard at work making content to extend the life of our favorite game.

FARcom has commissioned many incredible pieces of art the past year that will help bring to life a cast of new heroes, allies and locations from Middle-earth in our card game. Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, Tom Bombadil, and many more iconic characters from Tolkien’s stories will be joining the ranks of the card game in The Shire’s Reckoning.

If you enjoyed the Oaths of the Rohirrim cycle, there are a couple ways you can help support future content like The Shire’s Reckoning.
