Nothing assailed the Company nor withstood their passage, and yet steadily fear grew on the Dwarf as he went on: most of all because he knew now that there could be no turning back; all the paths behind were thronged by an unseen host that followed in the dark. – The Return of the King, by J.R.R. Tolkien

A Long-extended Party is pleased to present Fangs in the Dark, the second adventure pack in the Fell Summer cycle of free community-created expansions for our beloved card game.

After defeating the evil machinations of the purple-clad cultists that were trying to take over Bree, our heroes will now follow their newfound ally, Wolfsbane Jack, in pursuing the defeated villains as they scamper towards the Shire. In particular, their prey is Orc-eyes, a lieutenant of the cult of Gaur who might have access to important information. But their travel will be plagued by the packs of wolves who are seemingly aiding Orc-eyes.

A New-found Ally

The players will have to catch up to Orc-eyes before it’s too late, as time works against them. But the help of Wolfsbane Jack and his friends will be invaluable. This will be represented through the Bree-landers deck. The Bree-landers deck (also called the Bree-landers player) works as an additional player who will be part of the game, with Wolfsbane Jack [TFS 52] as its single hero, the Bree-landers objective card [TFS 51] explaining briefly how it works and a deck of cards representing allies and attachments that Jack can summon to his aid.

The first player will make decisions for the Bree-landers player, and the Bree-landers player threat will always be equal to the first player’s threat. Since the Bree-landers player counts as an additional player, it will impact the number of encounter cards revealed during the staging step.

An Oath to Fulfil

Sometimes allies are found in the most unexpected of places. This was true when our heroes met Wolfsbane Jack and saved him in Bree, but in the books too, there is a moment in which crucial help to the Free People’s cause comes from quite the unexpected source. Aragorn braves the Paths of the Dead to find and summon to the Stone of Erech the Oathbreakers, the undead of Dunharrow, asking them to fulfil the ancient oath they made with Isildur.

Now you too can recreate this iconic moment of the books, thanks to the Fulfil Your Oath player side quest [TFS 49] and the associated Oathbreaker cards, like the King of the Dead [TFS 42]. Oathbreaker allies cannot enter play unless Fulfil Your Oath is in the victory display, but once you do, you will have their powerful help at your side, and the fear they will instill in your enemies will make victory far easier to grasp.
