We don’t often get a party out of the Shire nowadays, and I should be sorry not to make you welcome. But there is such a crowd already in the house tonight as there hasn’t been for long enough. It never rains but it pours, we say in Bree.– The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien

A Long-extended Party is pleased to present Strange News in Bree, the first adventure pack in the Fell Summer cycle of free community-created expansions for our beloved card game.

Following the events of Secrets of the Old Forest our heroes find themselves in the town of Bree hoping to settle down for a quiet night at the Prancing Pony, but their peaceful intentions are quickly disrupted by the schemes of a local cult that worships a mysterious figure known as Gaur. The heroes will find themselves vying for control of Bree against the schemes of this cult and some townsfolk on the edge of revolt.

Strange News In Bree presents a new, original scenario where players will gradually reveal Scheme encounter side quests that will present various challenges to the players representing the nefarious plans of the local wolf-cult. Players will need to quest against these schemes to ultimately thwart the plans of the cult. However, players will need to balance their efforts to oppose the cult with attempts to calm the increasingly agitated people of Bree. Ignore the townsfolk and they may revolt, making your task much more difficult! Also, the more you work to oppose the cult, the more you may draw the attention of their leader – a young ruffian who goes by the name Orc Eyes.

Be Careful Who You Trust

Strange News in Bree is all about shifting allegiances and this is represented in the new keyword Turncoat. When a printed hero or ally gains Turncoat, they immediately lose their printed card type, gain the enemy card type, and engage their owner. However, players also have the opportunity to benefit from this keyword, as a printed enemy that gains Turncoat loses its enemy card type and gains the ally card type. What enemies will you recruit to the cause of good? What allies will you find are not as trustworthy as you hoped?

Messengers from the East

Strange News in Bree introduces two new heroes, the Blue Wizards Alatar and Pallando, as well as 9 player cards representing spells and allies from the East. Known for their reclusive nature, these wizards and their Easterling allies allow for an alternative approach to the quest phase. Several cards mitigate the penalties for questing unsuccessfully while allowing progress to be placed through other action and response abilities.

Take a journey off the beaten path as you discover what Strange News is in store for this next adventure pack in the Fell Summer cycle!
